Glass tumbler made at the Alloa Pottery, Clackmannanshire

This glass tumbler was made at the Alloa Pottery in Clackmannanshire in 1888. It was engraved by Emanuel Lerche for Walter Lindsay, the veterinary inspector for Clackmannanshire at that time.

The tumbler has straight sides and is engraved with a fern pattern and the Gothic letters 'W.L.'

Emanuel Lerche was a Bohemian engraver who arrived in Edinburgh in 1853. In 1873 he moved to Alloa in Clackmannanshire to work for W. & J. A. Bailley at the Alloa Pottery.
