Written charm, for curing toothache

This written charm to cure toothache was purchased from a woman at Kishorn in Lochcarron in the Highlands. It was worn round the neck by a shepherd.

Written charm to cure toothache bought from a professional witch at Kishorn, Lochcarron, and worn round the neck by a shepherd

Charms were widely used to ward off illness. Their special nature came from unusual materials or in the case of written charms, quasi-religious wording. Often they were worn, but some were dipped in water which was then drunk.
