This bronze Pictish penannular brooch was found in a Viking woman's grave at Westness on Rousay in Orkney. The brooch was made in the late 8th or early 9th century, but was buried between 850 and 950.

The brooch is a typically Pictish brooch type with incised geometric panels containing herring bone motifs on the terminals and in the middle of the hoop. The pin of the brooch is missing.

A variety of Pictish penannular brooches in silver and bronze have been found. They often have a characteristic panel on the hoop and frequently they have lobed terminals. Some, like this one, were valued by the new Viking settlers.
