Spearhead (fragment)

This fragment of a bronze spearhead was found at Whitewellbrae in Lanarkshire. It dates from between 1500 and 1150 BC

The socket and base of the blade are preserved. The spearhead has two loops on the socket, one now broken.

Spears were used both for fighting and for hunting. Some were designed to be thrusting weapons, while other lighter examples were designed to be thrown.
