Witch wall decoration, for Hallowe'en celebrations
Add to album

This 'Witch' wall decoration is one of a range of inexpensive items sold for Hallowe'en celebrations in turn-of-the-millennium Britain. American influence is clear from the smiling, Disney cartoon design.

This moulded plastic-material sheet shows a smiling green-haired witch in black hat, wearing a starry purple gown with a belt ending in a human hand tassel, and accompanied by her black cat. She is stirring a cauldron with a ghost-headed stick.

The 'horror show' paraphernalia associated with Hallowe'en night celebrations in 1990s Britain reflect an Americanised, Hollywood-influenced version of the traditional All Hallows Eve festival - itself a mixture of Christian and popular practices.
