This maiolica plate was made at the Fontana Workshop at Urbino in Italy between 1550 and 1560.

The dish is decorated in colours with a landscape with cattle in the foreground, and with a shield of arms of the Salviati family of Florence.

About 14 other pieces from this service can be found in major European collections. All the pieces from the Salviati service are decorated with these unusual landscape scenes without direct mythological or biblical sources.
