Dish

This maiolica dish was made in 1872 at the Castellani Workshop in Rome in Italy.

The dish is painted in polychrome with a griffin bearing a shield, surrounded by scrolling foliage and lines, floral terminals and feather-shaped motifs. The Griffin bears a shield monogrammed 'TC' (for Torquato Castellani) and the underside of the dish is inscribed 'Rome' and '1872'.
