Basin (1 of 2)

This maiolica basin was made between 1564 and 1600 in Eastern Italy.

The basin is decorated 'a graffito' in polychrome showing the biblical scene of 'Abimelech restoring Sarah to Abraham'. Abraham tried to pass on Sarah, his wife, to Abimelech, King of Gerar, by pretending she was his sister. When God told Abimelech before the marriage, he returned Sarah and her dowry to Abraham.
