This glass bowl was made at Vienna in Austria around 1910. It was designed by Michael Powolny.

The bowl is made of semi-opaque deep yellow and opaque black glass. It has three black spherical feet.

At the turn of the century the Vienna succession movement broke away from the tradition of organic Art Nouveau and took a more geometrical approach to decoration. These young artists and architect-designers held their first exhibition in 1898 and formed an association of workshops, the Wiener Werkstatte in 1903, where artists in different media followed a clean, clear-cut, unified style.
