This vase of clear colourless glass dates from 1960. It was made by James Powell and Sons (Whitefriars) Ltd of Wealdstone in London and engraved by Helen Monro of Edinburgh.

The vase has wheel-engraved decoration depicting a standing angel playing a lute. Near the base is the inscription 'Helen Monro '60'.

In the 1960s, British glass manufacturers were slow to follow the lead of their more innovative Scandinavian contemporaries. British artists experimented little with actual glassmaking, but continued the long national tradition of engraved decoration.
