Vase

This pale bluish glass vase was designed in 1936 by Gerda Stromberg and made in 1960 by AB Strombergshyttan of Hovmantorp in Sweden.

The vase has wheel-engraved decoration depicting a mermaid holding a fish in each hand.

Since the end of World War II, the national design organisations of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark have collaborated with joint exhibitions and prizes to promote modern functional design. This resulted in a characteristic 'Scandinavian Style' which was a major influence on world taste.
