Sleeve and gauntlet, kote

The sleeve and integral gauntlet of a suit of armour, kote, was attached by ties and buttons to the cuirass. The hands are protected from the lethal blade of a Japanese sword. The mitten-style of glove is reinforced with ribs of iron.

The front of the sleeve is made of padded chain mail, strengthened with iron ribs. The less vulnerable back of the sleeve is made of specially woven blue silk with a brocaded design. The mitten-style of glove is reinforced with ribs of iron.
