Iron nose protector and moustache

A lacquered iron mask was fitted under the helmet to protect the samurai and to make him look fierce. This has an upper and lower piece hinged together and a separate nose piece with a moustache. A two-layered throat protector is attached under the chin

The mask is made of lacquered iron, sometimes they are coloured red. The throat protector is made of lacquered iron plates threaded together attached under the chin of the mask. The separate nose piece is attached by the use of two pins.
