Mounted court sword
Add to album

This sword is mounted in the formal way for a sword worn at court slung from the belt. The scabbard is decorated with a family crest of three asarum leaves associated with the Tokugawa shogunate which ruled during the Edo period (1600-1868).

This sword has fine quality metal mounts of shakudo, a raven black coloured copper alloy mixed with a little gold. The ground is decorated in nanako, a fish roe punched pattern typical of this formal mounting encrusted with gold designs of 3 asarum leaves.
