This wooden printing block for use on textiles was used to stamp cloth processed at the finishing works of Burt, Marshall, Lumsden and Slater Ltd at Huntingtower Bleachworks at Almondbank in Perthshire. It is dated 1952.

The block, consisting of one piece except for the handle, has the inscription set in, in a copper strip. The inscription reads 'BROOKES / BROS / KC 4589 / 1952 / BK'. On the side is stamped 'MADE BY / JOHN WILD'.

For the first half of the 19th century textile manufacture was Scotland's most important industry. Even in the later 19th century, when shipbuilding and other heavy industries dominated, the textile trades continued to play a vital role in the country's economy.
