of Royal Burgh of Dunbar, East Lothian
Add to albumTo ensure fair trade, burghs each kept a set of standard weights and measures against which those in commercial use could be checked. This set of nine brass weights, pictured here in their fitted mahogany box, belonged to the Royal Burgh of Dunbar in East Lothian. They date from 1826.
The weights are for 8, 4, 2, 1 Imperial ounces, and 8, 4, 2, 1 and a half Imperial drams. (A dram is one-sixteenth of an ounce).
