These pewter measures for an Imperial half gill and an Imperial gill date from around 1830.

They are an Edinburgh-type of measure, pear-shaped, with no lid. Neither measure has a maker's mark. The half-gill has excise marks for Aberdeen and Edinburgh. The excise marks on the gill are indistinct.

Pewter was commonly used for measures and drinking vessels as it was both fairly cheap and strong enough to stand up to to the rigours of tavern life.
