These pewter measures for an Imperial half pint and an Imperial half gill date from the late 18th century. They are an Aberdeen-type of measure, baluster-shaped, with no lid. Neither measure has a maker's mark.

The half pint measure has excise marks for Aberdeen County and City. On the bottom, it is inscribed 'Imperial D. G.' Also scratched on the bottom is 'Lamb' (twice) and 'AB', the name and initials of former owners. The half gill measure has excise marks for Aberdeen City. On the bottom it has the letters 'D. G.' (probably for Dean of Guild).

Pewter was commonly used for measures and drinking vessels as it was both fairly cheap and strong enough to stand up to to the rigours of tavern life.
