These two pots were found at Duncraigaig near Kilmartin in Argyll and at Denovan in Stirlingshire. They were placed in cist burials between 2300 and 1700 BC, and probably contained offerings of drink.

Both pots were richly decorated on their exteriors in geometric patterns using a flat triangular point. The Irish-style bowl on the left from Duncraigaig was also decorated on its base.

While many early pots are simple and utilitarian, these two fine handmade examples show the high quality some early potters were capable of. They may well be the work of specialised crafts people.
