Bangles and pot
Add to album

These two bronze bangles and pot were found at Kinneff in Kincardineshire. They were possibly originally grave goods for a burial. They date from between 2200 and 1800 BC. The bangles were worn to resemble Continental spiral bracelets.

The bangles were made from bronze rods bent together so that the ends fit tightly against each other. The pot is richly decorated on its exterior, with horizontal lines made by whipped cords dividing the pot into three zones. It is partly restored.

Bangles of this nature have been found in several wealthy burials from the early Bronze Age, sometimes also with richly decorated pots which were included with offerings of food or drink. Other bangles, now lost, may also have been part of this find.
