Stair & gate rods

These five decorative wrought iron stair and gate rods were made by the Edinburgh ironworks firm of Thomas Hadden. They date from the late 19th or early 20th century.

Square shafted ironwork rod with an open twist at each end and sloping ends, from Hadden Ironworks, Edinburgh, late 19th or early 20th century

Important commissions were vital for firms like Hadden's who opened for business in 1901 at Silvermills Lane in Edinburgh. Work would be ordered by architects and private customers.
