Door handles

These three iron door handles were made by the Edinburgh ironworks firm of Thomas Hadden. They date from the late 19th or early 20th century.

The drop handle on the left is painted black and has an attached door plate. The heavy drop handle in the middle includes a fixing rod at the back. The handle on the left takes the form of an elongated heart.

Important commissions were vital for firms like Hadden's who opened for business in 1901 at Silvermills Lane in Edinburgh. Work would be ordered by architects and private customers.
