Quaich (detail) (2 of 2)

A quaich is a traditional Scottish drinking vessel. This is a detail of a large pewter quaich dating from the late 18th century. The detail shows the inscriptions 'I H' and 'R WELLWOOD', made by former owners on one of the vessel's side handles.

Large pewter quaich with side handles, inscribed `AA. DUNFERMLINE', `I H' and `R WELLWOOD', 18th century

Quaichs are usually made of wood or silver; pewter quaichs are rare.
