Quaich (detail) (1 of 2)

A quaich is a traditional Scottish drinking vessel. This is a detail of a large pewter quaich dating from the late 18th century. The detail shows the inscription 'AA. DUNFERMLINE', made by a former owner on one of the vessel's side handles.

Large pewter quaich with side handles, inscribed `AA. DUNFERMLINE', `I H' and `R WELLWOOD', 18th century

Quaichs are usually made of wood or silver; pewter quaichs are rare.
