This is the interior of a glazed earthenware bowl made by the Clyde Pottery of Greenock in Renfrewshire. The bowl is transfer-printed with scenes and lines from Robert Burns's poem 'Tam O'Shanter' and dates from the second half of the 19th century.

The interior is inscribed with four lines from near the beginning of the poem, 'The souter tauld his queerest stories/The landlord's laugh was ready chorus/The storm without might rair and rustle/Tam did na mind the storm a whistle'.
