Dinner plate (detail)
Add to album

This detail shows the mark of Robert Cochran & Company, of the Verreville Pottery in Glasgow. It is on the base of a transfer-printed earthenware dinner plate which dates from the second half of the 19th century.

The mark consists of a scroll with floral decoration above and below. The pattern name 'Asiatic Pheasants' is inside the scroll with the company initials ' R. C & Co. V.P.' underneath.

Robert Cochran took over the Verreville pottery in 1847 as Robert Cochran & Company. Verreville means glass town and emphasises that the firm originally produced glass as well as pottery.
