Dinner plate (detail)

This detail shows the mark of the Societe Ceramique of Maastricht in Holland. It is on the base of a sponge-printed and hand-painted earthenware dinner plate which dates from the early 20th century.

The mark consists of a lion surrounded by the text 'Societe Ceramique Maestricht' with 'MADE IN HOLLAND' stamped underneath.

This type of decoration on this plate is similar to that used by many Scottish potteries including J. & M.P. Bell of Glasgow and some of the Kirkcaldy potteries.
