Footstool (detail)

This is a detail from a walnut footstool made by John Taylor & Son in around 1850.

The detail shows a stamped inscription on the underside of the frame. It reads: 'JOHN TAYLOR & SON / MANUFACTURERS / EDINBURGH'. There is also a serial number: 'E6842'.

Taylor & Son stamped a great deal of their furniture but unfortunately the business records of the firm do not survive and it is not possible to date pieces from their numbers.
