This is a detail from a mahogany table, made in Kirkcaldy by Andrew Fleming and Company. The detail shows the paper label attached to the underside of the table.

The label reads: 'Andrw. Fleming & Co. / Manufacturers of / CABINET & UPHOLSTERY / Furniture, / UNDERTAKERS & APPRAISERS / KIRKALDY. / Floor Cloth / Carpeting & / Paper Hangings / Moreens / Chints & / Feathers'.

Fleming was able to supply a full range of interior decorating products and services including floor coverings, wallpaper and upholstery and curtain fabrics. The name of the town was often spelt 'Kirkaldy' at this time.
