This page is from Townsend's Monthly Selection of Parisian Costumes, a fashion magazine published in London. It contains written descriptions of various outfits which were illustrated on an accompanying fashion plate. The plate appeared in issue no 168, December, 1838.

The page includes an article entitled, 'Modes de Paris' which begins, 'La Mode (Fashion) has returned to Paris. The frosts of Winter have driven the tasteful goddess from the country and she has arrived in time for the opening of the Theatre ...'

Townsend's Monthly Selection of Parisian Costumes was in publication from 1823 until 1888. At first it was issued quarterly, but later it became a monthly publication.
