Mustard spoon (back), associated with MacLeods of Geanies, Ross-shire

This is the back of a silver mustard spoon associated with the MacLeods of Geanies in Ross-shire. The spoon is part of a service assembled by several generations of the family and was made in Calcutta in 1817, by Hamilton and Company.

The back is stamped 'A/H&Co'.

It was not only soldiers and colonial administrators who were sent from Scotland to India. With restricted opportunities at home, aspiring craftsmen such as silversmiths, found it necessary to expand their horizons.
