Trade token (reverse), Farthing, of Dundee, Angus
Add to album

This is the reverse of a copper farthing trade token of Dundee in Angus. Dated 1796, the token was designed by James Wright Junior and manufactured by Kempson. The die-sinker was Wyon.

The reverse depicts a large building with a steeple with the text 'TRADES ALL' underneath. The date is split on either side of the hall steeple - 17 to the left and 96 to the right.

The Trades Hall was built in 1776 to accommodate the Nine Incorporated Trades in Dundee. Designed in a elegant classical style by Samuel Bell, it was demolished after 1871 to enable the street to be widened.
