Add to album

This is the obverse of a bronze medal dated 1708 and made by John Croker in London. The medal commemorates the failure of the 1708 Jacobite invasion.

The obverse has a bust of Queen Anne. The Latin inscription translates as 'Anne, by the grace of God, Queen of Great Britain, France and Ireland'.

In 1708 an attempted Jacobite invasion of Scotland, supported by France, was unable to land. The French fleet was driven from the Firth of Forth by British Navy Ships. It was seven years before the Jacobites tried again.
