Medal (obverse), commemorating Adam Smith

This is the obverse of a bronze medal, dated 1787, commemorating Adam Smith.

The obverse depicts a bust of Adam Smith.

Adam Smith (1723-1790) was one of the founding fathers of modern economics. In his 'Wealth of Nations', published in 1776, he argued that self-interest, by being part of human nature, had ensured our progression from hunting and herding to capitalism.
