Bronze medal (obverse) commemorating David Hume

This is the obverse of a bronze medal commemorating David Hume on his death in 1776.

Bronze medal of David Hume on his death, with a double struck reverse, 1776

Hume's radical philosophies were not understood in his own time. His 'Treatise of Human Nature' was ill-received by the press and it was not until the 20th century that it was fully appreciated.
