Trade token (reverse), Halfpenny, of Glasgow
Add to album

This is the reverse of a 1794 copper halfpenny trade token of Glasgow.

The reverse depicts a large sailing ship with three masts. The flag flying is possibly the Scottish Saltire.

Between 1787 and 1817 over 10,000 different types of trade token were issued. Tokens varied in quality from crude lead discs stamped with initials to elaborate pieces of craftwork from the die-sinkers with depictions of industrial or commercial scenes.
