Jug, made at Kirkcaldy, Fife
Add to album

This earthenware jug was made at David Methven & Sons' pottery at Kirkcaldy in Fife. It dates from the 1850s.

This side of the jug is transfer-printed with a picture of an angel looking over soldiers and sailors shaking hands on a quayside. Above are the words `The brave soldiers and sailors of the Crimea`.

The town of Kirkcaldy on the north shore of the Firth of Forth was one of the major centres of Scottish pottery production. In the second half of the 19th century it had four separate factories.
