Colour woodblock print, ukiyo-e

Single print belonging to a tripych of a scene from the Kabuki theatre by Kunisada. The print is signed Gototei Kunisada and published by Yamaguchi-ya Tobei. The censer mark is Kiwame.

This print shows Nakumura Utayemon 1V, a famous Kabuki actor playing the role of Rikyu the famous tea master. He is seen performing the tea ceremony, transferring hot water from the kettle to the tea bowl by use of the hot water ladle.
