Colour woodblock print, ukiyo-e

Print in Album of 54 prints illustrating the 54 chapters of the Romance of Gengi by Kunisada. The series is called Sono sugata yukari no utsushi-e. It is signed Kochoro Toyokuni, published by Itsuumiya Ichibei and the censers are Kinugasa and Watanabe.

The print is in oblong (yokoye) format, within a border decorated with Gengi mon, badges. Prince Gengi is seated on a mat holding his sword, a folding screen behind him. A girl is presenting him with a lacquer box covered with a red cloth, fukusa.
