Colour woodblock print, ukiyo-e

Diptych of two actors performing a comic lion dance. The one on the right is Kawarazakiya Gonjuro. The print is by Kunisada and signed Toyokuni. It is published by Itsutsa-yawith the censer mark aratame and dated goat 10=1859.

This diptych shows the two actors wearing the lions costume and exposing their heads at either end. KawarazakiyaGonjuro is holding the head of the lion. Lion dances are especially performed at New Year. Barrels of sake are piled up behind the dancers.
