Sculptured stone, Easterton-of-Roseisle (B&W)
Add to album

This sculptured stone was found at Easterton-of-Roseisle in Moray. It was twice carved with Pictish symbols between 500 and 800.

This side of the stone has the more recent carvings, depicting a goose and a fish, probably a salmon.

Some of the Pictish symbols are recognisable animals, while others are more abstract. Interpreting all the symbols is difficult, and they probably had many roles and meanings. Some may have been personal memorials. Others may have marked territory.
