Back of a cross slab
Add to album

This is the back of the cross slab from Culbinsgarth on Bressay in Shetland. The slab is probably a copy of another Shetland stone from Papil on the Island of Burra. It was carved sometime between 800 and 1000.

The back has an irregular circle cross composed of interlaced bands. The cross is surrounded by a ribbon interlace incorporating strands which divide and interlaced rings.
