Medal (obverse), commemorating Charles I's Scottish coronation

This is the obverse of a silver medal commemorating the Scottish Coronation of Charles I on 18 June 1633 at Holyroodhouse, Edinburgh. During the coronation procession medals such as this were thrown to the crowd by the Bishop of Moray.

The obverse shows the king crowned in his coronation robes, wearing the collars of the Thistle and Garter. The Latin inscription reads 'By the grace of God, king of Scots, English, French and Irish'.

Commemorative medals with this design were also produced in gold. Curiously, some of the silver medals, like some of the gold ones, have an edge inscription stating that they are made from Scottish gold.
