Seal press

This seal press of the Royal Burgh of Crail in Fife was used to apply seals to documents. Made of wrought iron with a rectangular wooden base, it dates from the 16th or 17th century.

In the centre of the press is a wrought iron plate with three nails (originally there were four) which pass through the lugs of seal matrices.
