Pot
Add to album

This small ceramic pot was found in a cremation burial near Dunbar in East Lothian. The burial dates between 2050 and 1500 BC. This picture shows the bottom of the pot.

The pot is decorated with a geometric design around the top and near the bottom, and also on the bottom itself.

By around 1750 BC, in mainland Scotland, cremation had become the favoured funerary custom. With the exception of small accessory vessels such as this one, grave goods were rare and generally modest.
