This is sheet 12 from the twelve sheets which make up the 'Map of Scotland', a folding map published by John Stockdale of Piccadilly in London. Mounted on linen, the map is dated 31 January 1806 and is to a scale of 3.5 miles to 1 inch.

This sheet covers much of the Scottish borders, showing the line of the border with England, from the mouth of the River Esk in the west, to just north of Berwick in the east.

Berwick has played an important part in Scottish/English history. In 1018, Malcolm II claimed the Tweed as part of Scotland and from then until 1482, Berwick changed hands 13 times. It was finally ceded to England in 1482 in the reign of Edward IV.
