This letter, addressed to William Wilson & Sons of Bannockburn near Stirling, is an order for supplying lengths of tartan as per the attached sample. The letter is dated Aberdeen, 14 December 1825.

The pencil inscription above the letter reads, 'Glenorchy'.

Today's distinctive clan tartan patterns were created in the 19th century. Different combinations of colour and pattern, known as 'setts', varied from area to area and were later adopted by different families and clans.
