This letter, addressed to William Wilson & Sons of Bannockburn near Stirling, is an order for supplying lengths of tartan as per the attached sample. The letter is dated Crieff, 16 October 1824.

Wilsons' tartan weaving firm, reputedly founded in 1724, created new patterns to order, giving them clan and family names. They supplied the army with tartan cloth up until the mid-19th century and also met the ever increasing public demand for tartan.
