Medal (reverse) commemorating Prince Henry, son of James VI
Add to album

This is the reverse of a gold medal commemorating Prince Henry Frederick, eldest son of James VI. It dates from 1612. Several variations of the medal were produced and were widely circulated among Henry's friends.

The reverse bears the crowned royal arms and, in Latin, Henry's personal motto: ''Glory is the Light of an Honourable Mind'.

Henry, Prince of Wales, and heir to the throne, died in 1612, probably from typhoid. He was 16 years old. On his death, his younger brother, Prince Charles (later Charles I) became heir.
