Silver medal (reverse) commemorating the Battle of Culloden
Add to album

This is the reverse of a silver medal commemorating the victory of Prince William, Duke of Cumberland at the Battle of Culloden in 1746.

The reverse shows the Duke as a Roman general standing over two defeated Highlanders, with a retreating army and the town of Inverness in the background.

Strengthened by the return of troops from continental Europe, government forces commanded by the Duke of Sutherland continued their pursuit of the Jacobites. On 16 April 1746, at Culloden near Inverness, the Jacobite army was routed.
